A city of ancient origins, with a strong personality, in Siena every stone has remained the same despite time as did the traditions that are still handed down from father to son with great enthusiasm and participation. Included in the World Heritage by UNESCO, Siena is located in the center of Tuscany in a wide valley formed by the rivers Arbia, Merse and Elsa. The natural panorama of the round hills that surrounds it has no equal in Italy and it's another strength point of the city. In its heyday, between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the public life of Siena gravitated around Piazza del Campo, the political centre, and Piazza del Duomo, the religious centre. Still today these two squares are the main attractions of the old town: in the first one is held the famous Palio and here are located the Palazzo Comunale with the Torre del Mangia and the Fonte Gaia. In the second one you can admire the Cathedral of Saint Mary, with its beautiful marble facade, that preserve some art works of Michelangelo, Donatello and Pinturicchio. Walking in the old town, only pedestrian since 1966, is even possible to taste the specialties of the territory – olive oil, wine, tuscan bread, pici and chianina meat – and the dessert of tradition – ricciarelli, panforte, cavallucci.
